Fonville Winans (1911–1992) was renowned for his photographs of midcentury Louisiana life Depression-era Cajuns on Grand Isle, Baton Rouge society, and the state’s political figures. Less known was his decades-long passion for cooking. After his death, daughter-in-law Melinda Risch Winans discovered journals filled with over 100 original recipes, many annotated with his own notes on technique and refinement. The collection spans Louisiana Creole classics, Cajun gumbos, bisques, crab and crawfish dishes, and his iconic Pintail Crab Stew alongside mid-century food trends, Mexican-inspired recipes, and cocktails for entertaining. The book also includes a biography drawn from family memories and dozens of photographs, many never before published.
