At the Artisan’s Table explores how historical tableware inspires contemporary artisans and imaginative table settings.
Designers and event producers Jane Schulak and David Stark pair objects from design museums with new work by makers around the world, drawing on traditions such as Aptware marbled clay, blue-and-white Delft, chinoiserie, faux bois, plaster, splatterware, and trompe l’oeil. Each chapter moves from a museum object to an artisan’s studio and a table setting featuring the resulting handmade wares. Nearly 300 color photographs document the objects, makers, and finished tables.
