George Valentine Dureau: Life and Art in New Orleans examines the artist’s career, photography, and place in the city’s art scene.

Dureau (1930–2014) came to prominence after exhibiting at the New Orleans Museum of Art, then the Isaac Delgado Museum of Art, in the mid-1960s; his provocative work and public persona drew both acclaim and controversy. The book brings together 100 large-format photographic plates, many previously unpublished and some in color, with more than 200 illustrations and two essays. A section on the artists and artwork of 1980s New Orleans adds hundreds of photographs, while appendices include interviews, a career timeline, a map of significant locations, and related art publications, invitations, and posters.
