Tennessee Williams Annual Review 2014
The cover of this year’s journal, an image of Elizabeth Taylor in Suddenly, Last Summer from HNOC’s extensive Fred W. Todd Tennessee Williams Collection, complements an essay on the 1958 play that inspired the film. Topics explored in the issue include additional cinematic adaptations of Williams’s plays, the short works “One Arm” and “Ten Minute Stop,” and the multistage evolution of the darkly comic Kingdom of Earth. An exciting comparison of Williams’s plays to Jackson Pollock’s canvases includes three color images. In addition to scholarly works, the journal includes a theater review of the rarely performed Two-Character Play and an assessment of the playwright’s engagement with Cold War politics, as transcribed from a panel discussion at the 2013 Tennessee Williams Scholars Conference.
