A lightweight chiffon silk scarf featuring a section of Coloney & Fairchild’s 1866 ribbon map of the Mississippi River.
The design follows the river from just above Vicksburg through Natchez, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans to the Gulf of Mexico, recording tributaries, towns, railroads, and steamboat landings. Originally sold to steamboat passengers, the complete map traced the river’s 2,600-mile course on an 11-foot strip that unrolled from a small scroll case. Measures 72 × 8.8 in.
